The best variety to grow on the patio is Hestia – a disease-resistant dwarf variety which bears heavy crops of high-quality stringless beans, and attractive flowers which make a charming feature in your flower garden. You can also grow larger varieties in wide pots, with obelisks or wigwams for support.
Sow in May.
How to grow
Pick a sheltered but sunny position, and plant your beans into fertile, well-drained non-acid compost or soil, in pots or even hanging baskets. Sow seed 2” deep and 6” apart: 5 plants would be ample in a hanging basket. Harvest regularly, once every couple of days, when the pods have reached a decent size, but before the beans inside have started to swell.
